A way for visitors to learn about the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and other American Indian cultures in and around Palm Springs, California, the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum was founded in 1991. A nonprofit organization, the museum presents a number of collections and educational and research programs to ensure that the tribes’ cultures will endure. The ACCM hosts a range of core, permanent exhibits with text and relevant media that cover the early history of the Cahuilla people, as well as information on traditional basket-making materials and methods.
With programs throughout the year, the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum keeps its native traditions alive at on- and off-site locations. In addition to “bird dancing,” the ACCM hosts a six-day film festival and receptions for traveling exhibit openings. Its educational programs include hands-on classes and guided outdoor explorations through the ancient home of the Agua Caliente people.
